Embryo donation is when embryos that were created via IVF by another couple are donated to a recipient who cannot use their own eggs or sperm. The embryos are implanted in the recipient’s uterus with the aim of achieving pregnancy.
Embryo donation is suitable for individuals or couples who cannot conceive with their own eggs or sperm, including those with infertility, genetic conditions, or failed IVF attempts. It also helps same-sex male couples and women with ovarian insufficiency.
The entire embryo donation process typically takes around 4-6 weeks. This includes the preparation of the recipient’s uterus, the embryo transfer procedure, and then a pregnancy test to confirm successful implantation about 10-14 days after the transfer.
